Coastal Protection Project Mangrove Planting-Korolevu, Navatu Savusavu
On 8th April 2022, the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) team together with the Ministry of Forestry Operations and Cakaudrove Provincial Council Team with Korolevu villagers in Savusavu planted more than 1,000 mangroves along Korolevu’s coastline. The project was part of PIDFs Coastal Protection Project. The mangrove propagules directly planted, in the a few years’ time, will protect the village’s farm lands from the invasion of sea water intrusion affecting the soil composition and is aimed at greening Fiji and addressing our social, economic and environmental protection needs both for the current and future generations. The Mangrove planting activity also supports the Ministry of Forestry’s 30 Million Trees in 15 Years (30MT15Y) planting initiative which is part of Fiji’s green economy recovery from the ongoing impacts of Climate change and the recent impacts of COVID-19
