A courtesy call was made to the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) by Polish Special Envoy Ambassador Pawel Milewski yesterday, 11 March 2016 to discuss potential areas of partnership and support.
The visit allowed PIDF Secretary General, Mr François Martel to provide an overview of the PIDFs major accomplishments in terms of establishing the Pacific’s only participatory platform on sustainable development and empowering the Pacific to take ownership of their development outcomes.
“The meeting outcomes were very positive as it allowed us to enhance Ambassador Milewski understanding on the evolution of our regional architecture, UN sustainable development processes and regional linkages,” said Mr Martel.
“PIDF is always advocating in the international fora for more development partnerships. We also discussed and extended an invite for Poland to support and participate in PIDF activities,” further added Secretary General Martel.
Formal diplomatic relations between the Republic of Fiji and Poland were established on 11 July, 2014. With exchange of visits between Senior Government officials and accreditation of the Non-Resident Ambassadors in Australia to Fiji and in reciprocity the accreditation to Portugal of Fiji’s Ambassadors to Brussels and the existence of the newly established diplomatic relations, bilateral cooperation between the two countries could allow possible areas of investment. The Republic of Fiji could explore with Poland under Small Grants for development aid which mainly focuses on projects that would improve the livelihoods of communities living in the outskirts of towns/cities.
